Precast Lawn Crypts Help Expand Tahoma National Cemetery

Tahoma National Cemetery in Washington is a federally managed U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs national cemetery, developed to serve veterans and their families. As part of a multi-phase expansion, Phase 3 focused on adding significant new grave space while maintaining strict federal standards for durability, consistency, and appearance.

To support that effort, the project called for a large volume of precast lawn crypts installed across multiple fields within the cemetery. These systems provide organized, space-efficient burial solutions while preserving the clean, uniform landscape expected at national cemeteries.

Working on a VA national cemetery brings a different level of scrutiny than typical precast work. Every component had to meet strict federal specifications, from mix design to documentation.

All submittals required stamped engineering drawings, full material traceability, and certifications for aggregates, cement, and embedded hardware. The concrete itself had to consistently achieve 5,000+ PSI at 28 days, verified through ongoing cylinder testing throughout production.

Beyond strength, the project also required precise dimensional control across a mix of unit types. The layout included a combination of double and quad lawn crypts, along with a small number of oversized units, all coordinated to fit varying row lengths and field configurations. Maintaining production efficiency while hitting these tight tolerances at scale was critical.

Jensen Infrastructure supplied and manufactured a full range of precast lawn crypts from our Puyallup, Washington facility, delivering a mix of double, quad, and select oversized units totaling approximately 2,000 grave spaces.

Production followed VA specifications at every step, including engineered submittals, approved mix designs, and continuous testing to verify compressive strength and consistency. The use of both double and quad configurations allowed the installation team to efficiently meet layout requirements across irregular field dimensions while maximizing burial capacity.

By leveraging established forms, regional manufacturing, and experience with VA standards, Jensen delivered a scalable, compliant solution that supports long-term cemetery expansion while maintaining the quality and uniformity expected of a national veterans cemetery.
