Box Culvert Maintains Natural Drainage at New Master Planned Community
Project Details
About the Project
Building a master-planned community from the ground up means more than roads, utilities, and future homes. It also means protecting the sensitive land and waterways already in place.
At Placer Vineyards in Roseville, California, new development was moving into seasonal vernal pools and wetland areas tied to existing drainage networks. As the future community began taking shape, water needed a reliable path to travel.
To support future infrastructure while preserving the site’s existing drainage corridors, Jensen Infrastructure supplied a precast concrete box culvert system designed to maintain existing waterways while supporting future development.
Supporting Growth Without Disrupting Drainage
This project needed to accomplish two goals: build a roadway while keeping an existing drainage channel functional beneath it.
Because the new neighborhood sat within wetland mitigation areas, the natural drainage path could not simply be filled in or redirected as development moved forward.
Plus, with years of future construction still planned across the growing community, the system also needed to remain functional long-term as the surrounding area continued to evolve.
Precast Solution for Future Growth
Jensen Infrastructure supplied a double segment monolithic precast concrete box culvert system measuring 96” by 48” with a total installed run of 167’.
Installed beneath the future roadway, the structure allows water to continue moving while supporting the expanding Placer Vineyards development above.
Precast concrete helped simplify installation while providing consistent quality as infrastructure work continued across the active jobsite.
